COT
I’m sorry, ma’am. I’ll go...

MRS GROOTER
There are bad things in that forest, boy.
Hungry things that will scoop out your eyeballs
with a rusty spoon and swallow them whole!
Leave you blind and lost for the rest of your days!
Only monsters and lunatics enter those woods,
you hear me? Lunatics!

[The flashback ends. We see COT, huddled by a tree, pulling his cloak tight around his shoulders. He seems to be fighting off the panic]

COT
Sir Wyce… Where did you go...

The Field Guide To Magical Animals by Joe Wierenga

The art style of this story is designed with some pretty simple color theory. The art is supposed to look like it's painted on colored paper. Besides the characters, the background is usually a flat color. Then I'll pick one or two spot colors, for instance the doorways or the mushrooms or bark on the trees, to pop out from the background color. Add some highlights and shadows for texture, and you're done. It's simple, but effective. Though on some pages I have to cheat, like on this page where the background color changes from one scene to the next.
